우선 수원교구 교구장이신 이용훈 마티아 주교님과 천진암 성지 주임 신부님 김동원 비오 신부님, 그리고 이 미사를 공동 집전하시는 다른 신부님들과 미사에 참여하시는 수도자들과 평신도 형제자매님들께 인사의 말씀을 드립니다. 오늘 6월 24일은 복음의 선포자이자 구약의 마지막 예언자이셨던 세례자 요한의 축일입니다. 그리고 또한 오늘은 천진암성지에 모셔진 이벽과 동료들, 한국 교회의 설립 선조들께서 시복, 시성되시길 바라는 마음으로 이 미사를 봉헌하고 있습니다.
순교자들의 승리와 그들의 증언은 하느님의 사랑의 힘을 표현합니다. 그리고 한국 교회 안에서 지금도 열매를 맺고 있습니다. 이벽과 동료들의 희생은 우리가 하느님께서 우리를 위해 준비해주신 은혜를 기억하게 만듭니다. 우리는 선조들의 신앙과 사랑의 유산을 물려 받았으니 그 보물을 잘 보존해야 합니다. 특별히 이 미사에 참여하시는 순교자들의 후손들에게 인사를 드립니다.
프란치스코 교황께서는 순교의 순간은 한국교회에게 기억과 증언, 그리고 희망의 메시지가 된다고 말씀하셨습니다.
기억입니다. 우리는 한국 교회의 특별한 시초를 기억하지 않을 수 없습니다. 성령의 은총으로, 그리고 순교자들의 피로 시작 되었습니다. 우리는 1984년 시성되신 103위의 순교 성인들을 기억합니다. 그리고 2014년 교황님께서 복자로 선포하신 124위의 순교자들을 통해 영적인 위로를 받았습니다. 우리는 순교에 대한 기억이 또한 지금 진행 중인 이벽과 동료들의 시복 시성 절차가 행복한 마침표를 찍을 수 있도록 기도드리고 있습니다.
증언입니다. 한국 주교님들은 자주 한국 사회가 기술적인 발전과 함께 겪고 있는 물질주의와 세속화에 대한 사목적인 걱정을 표현 하셨습니다. 현대 사회에서 자주 애덕의 가치관, 이웃의 존엄성에 대한 존중, 가난한 이들, 병자들과 노인들에 대한 배려가 우선시 되지 못하는 것을 볼 수 가 있습니다. 특별히 청년들이 절망과 포기에 빠져있는 모습도 볼 수가 있습니다. 또한 한반도의 평화를 위해 우리는 신앙의 증언이 필요합니다. 한국에 있는 모든 이들이 평화의 은총을 통한 통일이 이루어지기를 바라고 있습니다. 증언은 항상 신앙을 통한 희생이 필요하다는 것을 우리는 잊지 말아야 합니다.
희망입니다. 꼭 미래에 대한 막막한 희망이 아니라 우리가 신앙의 영감으로 예수 그리스도의 메시지가 평화와 사랑으로 항상 승리할 것이라는 확신이고 우리들의 노력입니다.
한국 순교자들의 생애가 우리 모두가 더 훌륭한 인간이, 그리고 더 훌륭한 신자가 될 수 있게 도와주시도록, 그리고 우리 모두의 생애가 교회와 예수님을 위한 봉사가 될 수 있게 만들 수 있기를 기도드립니다.
MESSAGE
June 24, Mass at ChonJinam
I wish to greet the Bishop of Suwon, Most Rev. Matthias Ri Iong-hoon, Rev.Fr.Pius Kim dong-Won, priest responsible for the Shrine at Chon Jinam, the priests, sisters and lay people. Today, June 24, Feast of John the Baptist – first evangelizer and last prophet of the Old Testament. We offer this Holy Mass with prayers that the Founders of the Church in Korea, Yi Byeok and companions, who died for the faith and whose relics are buried here at Chon Jinam, as we hope, will one day be elevated to the altars.
The victory of the martyrs and their witness to the power of God’s love, continue to bear fruit today in Korea, in the Church. The sacrifices of Yi Byeok and companions remind us of the great things which God has wrought to the Church. We are asked to treasure the legacy of faith and charity entrusted to you by your forebears. I want to greet those here who are descendants of the martyrs at Chon Jinam.
Pope Francis asks us that the events of martyrdom are a moment of MEMORY, WITNESS AND HOPE for the Church in Korea.
MEMORY – We cannot forget the peculiar origins of the Church in Korea, by the grace of the Holy Spirt, and nurtured by the blood of the martyrs. We have the memory of the 103 korean saints, canonized in 1984. We are spiritually comforted also by the beatification of 124 Korean martyrs by Pope Francis in 2014. We hope that this memory will also be consolidated with our prayer that the new causes for beatification, among them Yi Byeok and companions will soon reach its happy conclusion
WITNESS: The Bishops of Korea have often expressed the pastoral concern – about increasing secularism and materialism in technological advancements of Korea. Often times, in our competitive modern society, the values of charity, respect for the dignity of others, care for the poor, and the sick and aged, are placed on a secondary level. In a society of competition, there is the trend to set aside the weaker side of society. There is the tendency for despair and discouragement, especially in the youth. Also needing a witness of faith is our desire of peace in the Korean Peninsula: In every Korean soul, there is that inner desire for the grace of peace and reunification in the divided peninsula. Witness can also entail personal sacrifices for the faith.
HOPE: is not something that is merely futuristic, but rather the efforts that we all do, inspired by our faith, that the Message of Jesus Christ, of peace and love will always prevail.
May the lives of the martyrs of Korea encourage us to be better persons and better catholics, in the service of Jesus Christ and his Church.. AMEN.
